It surprises Holden, though he'd be hard-pressed to explain why and he actually doesn't know what to say at first, as Alex kind of flounders on. Later, he'd probably find this whole thing a bit funny but the humor isn't there just yet.

Instead of saying no, he shifts so that he's facing Alex more directly, studying him. "You've been thinking about it?" he goads, but then he decides he should probably put Alex out of his misery before he never stops talking.

"My place or yours?" a small joke made out of his own answer.
