Alex thinks about it for a long moment. "I think I'd like that," he finally says. He raises a brow a bit at the additional comment and he rolls his eyes.
He grinned at the reply, "You seem quite sure of that." Not that he had any real doubts himself. Mostly he figured that both military history and prior experience with alien races certainly helped with his advancement opportunities.
Of course, Thor could probably arrange a non-official visit, but he knew that would just cause problems in the long run and so he wasn't going to.
"I'm already well on my way," Alex said with a confident shrug. He looked down though, away from Thor because god when he looked at him it was really distracting to focus on anything.
He nodded at the first, because as far as he was concerned that confidence was a good thing, and he gave a shrug at the rest, "I couldn't begin to guess."
He was sure that Alex had other friends here, certainly some acquaintances, or a friendly rival at the absolute least, so it wasn't as likely to simply be lack of companionship that had him missing Thor. Thor missing Alex on the other hand was easier, that was simply that Thor got attached to human companions easily and the fact that Alex was one of those he had an effect on only compounded that issue.
Alex supposed that maybe he knew a bit of why. There was a part of him that had become reluctantly attached to Thor. That was used to his imposing presence and annoying jovial personality. And the sex had been good.
And he was the exact opposite of Michael and maybe that was something he had needed in his life.
There was another warm laugh at that demand, inclining his head in some kind of acquiescence once more, "I will do my utmost not to let it." He replied.
Truthfully that was the kind of thing that would go to his heart more than his head, and that might have been all the more dangerous, it was hard to say for sure.
To the heart is certainly more dangerous for both of them most likely. Alex was trying not to care too much. He was trying to ignore the desire to get close and kiss him despite how inappropriate it is especially given their surroundings.
And there's a tinge of arousal in seeing Thor again and the pheromones already pulling at Alex in a way he had also tried not to miss.
"We...have a lot of work to do," Alex said, anything to put a bit more distance between them for now until he had himself under control again
"Of course." He replied with an incline of his head, a nod of acquiescence as much as it was anything else, "I'm sure you'll be able to find me when you've finished for today." Thor was rarely difficult to find as it was, and that went double for Alex even though the two of them weren't actually bonded.
Thor did, in fact, have a few things to do now that he'd returned, even though he'd already had his debriefing, which hadn't lasted long since he hadn't really been gone on a mission at all, just one of his usual trips back to Asgard for a while.
Alex gave Thor a quick nod. Then they both go about their day, their work. They brush past each other now and then throughout the day and the ache to touch, to kiss grows. Finally toward the end Alex asks Thor to come to his room when he's done working. He knows he must be starting to put off a more apparent scent and he can only hope no one else will notice but Thor.
So by the time he's done with work he headed to his dorm, removing his prosthetic and taking a shower before putting on a pair of shorts and idly working through some emails on his laptop from his bed.
Thor had nodded at the request, and had finished up what he was doing before making his way to quarters, because it had only gotten more obvious in their brief interactions throughout the day just what it was Alex was going to need from him.
He doubted anyone else had realized it, as Thor was fairly certain that the only reason he had -aside from the outright request- was because the two of them were still attuned to each other even after Thor's absence. While he knew that he was welcome, he still knocked first, waiting for the go-ahead before entering the room.
"I hope I didn't keep you waiting long." He said by way of greeting as he padded across the room, surprisingly light-footed for someone of his size.
Alex looks up from the laptop, slowly closing it when Thor does come into the room after being invited in. His eyes roam over his form and he'd like to think that all this he was feeling is just the pheromones, that there isn't something more there beneath it. But Alex is starting to find it harder to lie to himself, especially after how badly he'd missed Thor while he was gone.
"Not that long. I was just getting some more work done."
He chuckled warmly, shaking his head as he leaned in to press a kiss to the top of Alex's head, gentle and affectionate in the way he often was even when they were actually having sex. It was just how he was as often as not.
"You know, SHIELD does expect you to take some time to yourself once in a while." He straightened, making a gesture with one hand as if to encompass the room, "And your own quarters would seem to be the best place for that."
Alex had shied away from those affections when things had first started. He'd tried hard for it not to matter, not to care and not to feel anything for Thor. But it's hard to ignore anything about Thor and time had done it's number, warming Alex to him, even to the affection.
"I do, I invited you here didn't I?" Alex questioned, looking over the other. He wasn't good at turning work off, especially not since he'd come to SHIELD.
"You did indeed." He replied with a nod, smile breaking out once more, "Though considering hat this is the state I found you in, I wasn't entirely sure as to why."
That was definitely a tease, warm and amused in the way Thor so often was because he couldn't help it, but particularly with those he cared about, "And I suppose your mentioning it means that you invited me here for a reason other than fact-checking a report?"
Alex lifts a shoulder. "I like to keep myself busy," he says simply and the
work is abandoned now that Thor is here.
"I definitely don't need you to fact check a report," he says and shifts to
sit at the edge of the bed, leaning back on his hands as he appraises the
other. "I think you could do with less clothes for what I had in mind."
"Only a little less?" He asked, even as he hooked his thumbs into the hem of his shirt to pull it off up over his head, slinging it over the back of the chair as he made his way that much closer, still just out of arm's reach, but that was for his own benefit as much as anything, let them both have some building anticipation.
One hand toyed at the waist of his pants a moment later, brow arching, "Because I can do 'a lot' instead of just a little, if you prefer."
Alex watches Thor removing his shoulder, his eyes casually moving over him. He thinks not for the first time that they should stop playing this game that things can only be just to sate a need for so long before it's...more. Alex continually guards himself against more but it creeps on the edges, the playful moments, the tender ones, the ones of anger that were in no short supply. He sits up a little more and pushes the encroaching thoughts away.
"A little," Alex doubles down on his original statement with a small smirk.
"Very well." He replied, voice a low, amused rumble once more as he stepped forward putting himself only just within reach, if Alex stretched a little, curious to see just how long he could hold out, how long they both could.
"A little it is, then." There was merriment in his eyes as there so often was, but it wasn't mocking, it was just quiet and pleased, happy to be where he was.
Sometimes, Thor could almost bring out a lightness in Alex, shed away some of the walls and armor built up to survive. He never quite completely lets go even when Thor virtually takes him apart there's always something held back, a measure of control clung to.
"We quite often are, I've found." He replied, inching just a little closer once more, taking his time, waiting to see which of them caved and actually reached out first or if they'd simply end up pressed together, keeping their hands to themselves until the last possible moment, which had happened at least once that he could recall, like some odd game of chicken.
"It seems not much has changed here in my absence." Difficult to say if he meant SHIELD as a whole or just Alex's quarters, it was just as likely that he meant both, or would decide which it had been based on Alex's response.

"That won't be very difficult."
