For Darius

Gillian had left and Darius had been shut down by Grace. Liam and Darius were not doing great in the romance department and the world was still ending if they couldn't fix it. Liam finds that he can't really focus on the whole asteroid thing at the moment when it already feels a bit like the world is ending, at least everything that mattered in the world -- look, he can be dramatic.

"How about we drink?" he asks Darius, the other looks about as put out as Liam feels.

The suggestion gains a raised eyebrow from Darius. He'd been focused on trying to figure out what they'd been overlooking since Grace had stopped talking to him. It wasn't an action he was entirely unused to from Grace, but it did manage to make him hyperfocus on something else just to keep from replaying every interaction since over again in his head.

He turns in the seat where he'd been repeatedly going over scenarios. "Not, a suggestion I expected coming from you, Liam." There's a bit of amusement in his voice, even with the dark circles ghosting under his eyes from lack of sleep. It isn't a no, it's just, surprise.

Well, Liam is the MIT student who had gone out drinking and getting laid the night he’d ended up detecting the asteroid so drinking isn’t a far-flung an idea as it would seem... and at least drinking with Darius he might not do something stupid like get into a bar fight or fall in love with someone he’s just met.

“Good to know that you don’t know everything then, Darius. So? Drinks?”

He turned the rest of his way in his chair, watching Liam for a long moment. The boy had been working hard, possibly harder than Darius himself had of late. He was certain that the dark under Liam's eyes was darker than the day before and knew he was more than hurting from the blow Gillian had left him with. Darius could take Grace's anger, Liam was a far more sensitive person.

There's a heavy sigh as the knowledge that Liam needed this break, far more than he did, solidified in his head. Besides, he had once said that if you have to ask the question, you probably need that drink. "Drinks would be lovely." It's an agreement that doesn't really need to be said as he stands to cross to the small stand where his good liquor is, pouring two glasses.

Liam's shoulder's drop slightly in a moment of relief. For a minute he had thought that Darius might insist that they keep working and Liam is sure that he might have ended up going crazy if he had to spend another hour completely sober. It's not that he can't deal with stress or anything but this is perhaps too fresh a wound to completely ignore and alcohol made a good bandaid.

Besides, the program he's running is doing a lot of the heavy lifting for him so they're still working on the problem in the background.

"Fancy."

Darius wouldn't do that to Liam - at least he'd try not to. The other man worked just as hard and he knew just how taxing it could be. Especially with Liam's particular brand of hopeless romanticism. He and Gillian were, young. They were impulsive and hot-headed, and, unlike Darius, they didn't understand the cold smolder of waiting and longing when you weren't 100% sure of the outcome. They hadn't already given up one great love in order to do what you thought was more important. So Liam needed time to mourn, or think things through and realize that the window was still open to the possibility of her taking him back.

The comment brought a smirk to his lips. Liam had seen the set a million times when he'd been in the treehouse, and only now seemed to realize that this was what Darius meant when drinking was offered. Quality liquor in proper glasses.

He hands one to Liam. "This is just a setback, we'll get it in the end." Darius was, not particularly good at decompressing anymore.
