There's a bright and welcoming grin on her face when he opened the door, and she just beamed at him for a moment before she added, "good morning Robert. I hope you like bagels. I grabbed a couple of variety of them and some different cream cheese spreads." Because nothing was as good as showing up with food. After all, it was too early for drinking, even if she didn't think that he'd slept anymore than she did. But Alex had dealt with people asking her about the shadows below her eyes too much to ask someone else about them.
"And I got you earl grey tea. I was leaning more towards caffeinated than not, honestly."
“Who doesn’t like bagels?” Robert asked and he smiles. Of course there are plenty who don’t he’s sure but they are a rare breed and he’s hardly all that picky.
"Well," Alex said with a laugh, "I mean you could be someone who hates gluten or whatever. I know you're not because of the burgers last night, but you could be, I guess." Without asking, Alex just let herself into his hotel room and moved to sit on the sofa, looking around at the work on the coffee table. As a workaholic, Alex completely recognized the properties of such things in someone else.
"It doesn't look like you got any more sleep than I did, honestly." The words were light, and with a smile and a shrug, and Alex can't help herself but to add, "maybe I should have walked you back to your room last night."
Robert shuts the door once Alex is in and he really finds her quite charming even if he's also a little unnerved. It's not a bad unnerved, though, perhaps. It kept him on his toes.
"There's always something to keep me awake," Robert admits and moves to sit down as well. "To stop me from working?" he questions with a chuckle.
"Well, I mean I think I'd be more entertaining than working." The words come with more than a little bit of a smirk before she picks up her coffee and takes a large sip of it. It's definitely not her first coffee of the day, and it's certainly not going to be her last, but she's grinning at him before she offers him a bagel from the bag.
"These are good and warm too. They were hot when I grabbed em so they're perfect now."
"Honestly? Not even a little. I'm kinda bad at the whole planning thing. I just go on my instincts, and for the most part they tend to lead me right." Alex just grinned a bit before she took another sip of her coffee, and grabbed a bagel of her own, before reaching for the tub of cream cheese that went along with it. "Does it bother you?"
"I don't know. You definitely seem like a planner. Well, at least before I tempted you out with the best burgers in Seattle and a rock show that nearly gave me a migraine." Laughing softly, Alex just took a bite of her own bagel before she asks softly. "Did you really want me to come this morning after last night? Be honest."
"I try to be but plans get derailed pretty often for me," Robert said and if she knew enough to reach out to him she'd probably heard of some of those unfortunately public instances that had thrust him into more fame than he'd ever want as a Harvard professor and writer.
He smiles at her, a raised brow at the question. "I don't think you really need to ask that."
Alex's own brow raises a bit at the question, and she gives him a shrug before she takes another sip of her coffee. "I know that sometimes I can come on a little strong, and I just wanted to make sure before I kind of just come on a little stronger."
Moving closer to him on the couch, Alex set down her bagel on the coffee table before she just looked him in the eyes and softly asks, "is it okay if I kiss you, Robert?"
Robert looks further amused for a moment and he doesn't seem particularly bothered by the implication as he drinks his tea. However, he hadn't expected her to move closer to him just then and ask that question.
He can't remember the last time a woman had asked him and not the other way around if there was any outright asking to be had at all.
"I think that would be more than okay, Alex." His tea is lowered to the table as well as any thought of eating just then.
Well, he seemed like the sort of person who needed to be asked, honestly, and Alex would rather do some asking than not and have him be shocked and shutting down. So she set her coffee down on the table as well, and brushes her palm against his cheek gently before leaning in and pressing her lips to his, the question she was asking still inherent in the softness of the kiss.
Alex's lips were soft on his own and inviting. The warmth of the kiss drew him in and he kisses her back, his hand lifting to her cheek before slipping further back and fingers slipping into her hair, cupping the back of her head as he deepened the kiss slowly.
Alex is certainly an unexpected and pleasant surprise for Robert still.
Alex is the sort of person who goes after the things that she wants be it a story or a person. A surprise is a good way of looking at it. Besides her and Robert haven’t started working together so this is a safe attraction that she can give into.
Besides, he’s a good kisser. Alex likes good kissers.
Alex deepens the kiss even more, her arms around his neck and she lets out a little purring sound into the kiss before she breaks it slowly to whisper into his ear, “I’d like to make love to you, Robert if you’re willing.”
