There are literally zero revelations that come after “you might wanna sit down’ and ‘you didn’t do anything wrong’. Those are clear indications that things are bad and you DID do something wrong. So Tommy just stands there and starts pacing.
“If you’re going to break up with me you should just do it.”
Gar shakes his head. “I’m not breaking up with you!”
Gar bites his lip and his hands instinctively end up on his stomach and he knows he might lose Tommy anyway. The other might just run and leave him... them.
“I’m pregnant okay.”
Gar blurts out because there’s no easy way to tell him.
Hands on the stomach. Stomach ache? Was he making Gar that nervous? Well, he wasn't about sit down just because Gar had a sensitive...
Frozen. Tommy goes still as a statue. This was not something that was easy for Tommy to do. Completely still, except for the widening eyes. That... How...?
"I, uh... You're what?"
His Alpha instincts were shouting with joy, and he wanted to move and do everything a good alpha should do. The rest of him didn't know what to do with this information. It half wanted to run and hide. Tommy and family wasn't exactly successful.
Tommy being that still, honestly, Gar's never seen him be even close to that still. He's worried that it means he's about to bolt and Gar's never going to see him again. He looks down and he feels like somehow he's done something wrong in getting them into this situation at all.
"I'm pregnant... I don't know how it happened? It shouldn't have but now I am...And I didn't tell you cause I thought you might leave and I really couldn't handle that when I was trying to handle this."
And he's not handling it the best but he's managing at least.
All he can think to say is one thing. And it will no doubt upset Gar. Still, there is that small Flutter of excitement in his stomach and it let him almost eager. It took all Tommy had to not run in that second. Neither forward nor away.
It does upset Gar a little but only because it makes him feel more like it's his fault. He should have done more to make sure something like this didn't happen. It's not like they tended to use condoms so it was on him.
"Yeah but, I guess I wasn't careful enough? I'm really sorry..." Gar feels his eyes getting wet again and he groans a little, rubbing the tears away quickly because yeah that's another thing. His emotions are all hair trigger lately. It'd been another reason to get away from Titan Tower. There were things that could set him off in a bad way there.
Gar really couldn't help it because the last thing he wanted to do was cry in front of Tommy. He inhales sharply as the other pulled him into his arms and now that the truth is out there at least it doesn't feel like he's stealing a moment anymore like when Tommy first got there. He wraps his arms tightly and buries his face into the other.
He doesn't know what to say and he just quietly holds himself close to Tommy. He'd been needing Tommy to hold him since the moment he found out and finally he was getting it. He's still scared, the whole thing scares him but at least Tommy isn't already out the door.
"You don't have to do that," he says and it's a bit muffled. Tommy doesn't have to share the blame but that's Gar and the type of alphas he's been around, the kind where it is all on the omega.
“Dude, it literally takes two to make a baby. Or one if they are super magic, which we aren’t,” Tommy reminds Gar. It wasn’t like he wasn’t there for the conception thing. He gave a vital part of it. But he gets why Gar hid.
“You thought I would run if you told me.”
He would have. Far and fast and he would have been sick and cursed the world and maybe not come back. But... the fact that Gar has thought that kept Tommy rooted in place. He won’t live down to that expectation.
Gar smiles slightly and he won’t argue. He would be willing to take the blame if it made things easier but arguing about it didn’t make it easier and Tommy’s right anyway.
“Yeah...” Gar still is half thinking Tommy will still run, which just makes him hold tighter to him, almost clinging. “I’m sorry. I just... if I could run from this I probably would have?”
It hurts on a level to even suggest it. That Gar could decide he didn’t want kids. Didn’t want Tommy’s kids. Maybe they were too young. Maybe they weren’t suited to this. Maybe a lot of things. But all in all, well, it was Gar’s decision.
Gar frowns and he pulls his head back from where he’d buried it in Tommy’s shirt, soaking in his warmth, his scent and his presence already comforting him as much as he was still agitated.
“I don’t want that,” he says firmly. It just isn’t him even if he doesn’t see anything wrong with it. “It’s just... been really scary and overwhelming and I feel awful like... most of the time? I missed you so much. I needed you but I couldn’t...”
This was hard. All of this was so hard. So unbelievably difficult. To the point where Tommy knew he was going to be sick with worry. He’d never had good parents after all. Didn’t know what they were like. What they could be like. What he should be like.
That didn’t make the choice he was about to make any easier. It was just what he had to do. He refused to be like his soul-father. Or his blood family for that matter.
"You sure about that, Tommy? I'm okay here, I'm safe. They take care of me...so you don't have to. You get to have a choice too."
He'd give Tommy the out that Gar didn't want to take himself. He didn't want to lose him but he didn't want to feel like Tommy was being pressured to be with him through it, either.
Gar bit his lip and he couldn't help but smile. "You're really not going anywhere?"
It's probably an unfair thing to ask but he's just relieved. He reaches to grab Tommy's hand and he doesn't want him to go anywhere yet. He glances around the basement and thinks about it.
"Larry'd be happy to have someone else to cook for," he says. And it is safe where they are. It's secluded but there's a town not too far away. Gar had been worried about dangers ever since he found out about the unexpected surprise and well he's been to Tommy's apartment and this might have a few perks.
And it's not like Tommy would have a hard time getting to his team when he needed to be with them he could travel so fast that commute was hardly a thing.
“I want,” Tommy says in a tone that is shaky and nervous, “to run to Timbuktu. I wanna shout that I’m too young to have a kid. I wanna point out that I’m just gonna be as bad as Mary and Frank.”
He is young and scared and worried. But that doesn’t change what he has to say right at this moment. Doesn’t change him moving to pull his boyfriend, his mate into his arms.
Gar watches Tommy as he talks and he doesn't interrupt him. He understands those fears, those urges. He gets Tommy. He melts into him once the other pulls him close in his arms again. It's the safest place to be. He wraps his arms around the other and just settles there again. He'd be content not to move from this for quite some time if Tommy could stand to stay in place.
"I know you can," he says after a moment. "My parents died when I was really little you know..." Tommy might not have known that exactly. Gar doesn't talk about his past before Dr. Caulder found him dying in the Congo. "I don't really know what I'm doing."
“So... I guess we be terribly uneducated but we’ll meaning idiots together? I mean, other people have done this. Why not us?”
They deserve to have this one thing, don’t they? Or to try? Sure he’s still scared and starting to shake in Gar’s arms, but he wants to try.
I will not be like Frank and Mary. I will not abandon my kid.
“Do... have you started making a nest?”
Sure the Omegas tended to nest themselves up. Or den? Or whatever, Tommy hadn’t paid too much attention over the years. But his instincts told him that making a good one was his job. Then again, he was all ‘omega rights’ and he didn’t wanna take something from Gar that he had managed on his own.
"Dumber people than us have done it," Gar says and well it's supposed to be reassuring. They both want to make it work and do this well so that counts for something. Gar remembers when Tommy said something about being born to lose and he hopes that Tommy might stop thinking that about himself because they aren't going to lose at this.
He tightens his arms around Tommy and tilts his head up to press a soft kiss to the other's jaw.
"Not...really..."
Honestly depends on the definition of nesting, there's certainly evidence he's been on that couch more than anything else, dishes, sodas, and various other things within arms reach and way too many blankets on the sofa than any one person should need. But it's random and disorganized and really he hasn't been taking great care of himself just trying to make it through one day to the next.
"Like, I wasn't kidding about being sick all the time. Larry doesn't even make me eat at the table and he insists Cliff, our literal Robot Man sit at the table."
Yeah, he's trying to explain away why he's not done a better job.
Oh he is born to lose. Just... he has a lot more to lose right now. And it makes those stupid fucking instincts that he hates more than literally anything ramp up to eleven.
“Is this where you want it?”
He is going to leave aside that he only knows Gar’s people from stories. Whether he can trust them or not is a question he isn’t ready to answer. What he is ready for is getting Gar TRULY comfortable and curling around him and MAYBE growling a little at anyone that gets close.
"I think so... yeah," Gar does trust the people here. They were family just as much as the Titans were. He doesn't want to be too far away from family. And he didn't want to be alone if Tommy had to go save the world or something or whatever.
They were on separate pages and didn’t even know it. But Tommy just shrugged. It was something he could work with. Even if he wasn’t sure WHY Gar liked this room in particular.
“Okay. I mean, the room looks a bit public but I won’t complain. I’m gonna clean up if that’s okay. Maybe, like, group text your people that I am here?”
"It's...my space," Gar says. It's where he'd lived when he lived here. There's a bed across the other side of it. He just chilled on the couch most of the time because of the tv's position. And yeah... Cliff kind of came in and out as he wanted without knocking most of the time but Gar didn't mind it.
"The basement was basically my room before when I lived here." He bit his lip a little at the mention of texting.
"That's okay. Uh... I'll just... go tell them," Because cell phones weren't really a thing with them.
It isn’t perfect by half. There need to be new blankets and pillows in mass. That smell like Tommy. And a lock on the door. His own fridge. Maybe a microwave? What to expecting Omegas need? Tommy has to do research. Soon. Would ask Billy to tell him but Billy would figure out why. Dammit.

“Gar, I... I should have been using condoms. Not like it ever would have been more than a few minutes for me to get them. I’m sorry.”
This was more his fault than Gar’s. And he knows it. Mostly because his brother had told him so before.
“Shouldn’t be on an Omega to be responsible for it. It’s my fault too.”
Fault. Blame. That sort of term had to sound more like disapproval than he meant it.
