Late sucked, but he understood sometimes you did things for the investigation. Perhaps he was yawning a little by the time Simon showed up, but that was because for him it was even later. But hey, he moved to open the door of the small place he maintained in the city for when he wanted to get away form his coworkers, and opened it for Simon.
Simon wished he could have been there earlier but it'd be a lie to say he doesn't love his work. Each body is a life and a truth to discover -- and Simon gets to learn from the best. He's lucky David has put up with it at all, honestly. A lot of gues definitely couldn't handle it when he had to stay for a dead body instead of coming to their warm one.
Smiling when David opens the door he holds up the bag of cookie dough.
"Yeah, I'm sorry it took so long. I got your favorite."
Simon chuckles at the other's instructions and moves to set the bag down and then goes to grab the soap and scrub himself again. He definitely is careful at work, always changing out of scrubs before he even leaves the building.
"Mm, yeah, wine," Simon sighs. His case hadn't been pretty either and there were still a ton of questions that needed answering but he and Harrow could work on that tomorrow. "I'm sorry you had a hard one."
"We figured it out. It's all being dealt with," David answered. "But it's been almost three days since I've had good sleep over it. That's why I wasn't getting back to your texts very fast. I'm sorry."
But he knows he has to do his best about all of this. And his best isn't being a good boyfriend at the moment. If he's a boyfirend.
Simon nods, a frown touching his lips but he finishes up cleaning himself up and dries off his hands and arms before going back to David, wrapping his arms around the back of his neck and pressing close enough to kiss him lightly.
"I understand. You don't have to apologize for that."
Simon finished and discards the shirt as his eyes move over David’s exposed skin. He smiles at the compliment. They always sound sincere from David. He leans to press a kiss to the other’s lips.
They sound sincere because they are, in fact, sincere. That was just how life worked with him. He didn’t see a point wasting time by saying things he didn’t mean. Who did that help?
Simon grins and pulls the other into a kiss. His hands move over the same path his eyes had before, fingers spreading out over his abs and up over his chest.

Not that he didn't trust that Simon did the same at work when he was done with a body. No, David was just careful and tended to double scrub himself.
"Wine with dinner or no? I think I need it today. We just wrapped the ugliest murder suicide."
