That was about to change, and he's not about to pretend he's doing this of some sort of an altruistic compulsion. No, he's very aware he's asking -- forcing -- Levi to risk his very life for a cause that is not (yet) his own. But if someone as skilled as him could not survive, then perhaps there was no hope for any of them. It is another bet he's willing -- necessitated -- to take.
Erwin's sunny disposition finally clouds somewhat, large brows drawing together in seriousness, yet he has the gall to look almost a little contrite.
"Perhaps at first," he relents. "But I can not imagine anyone maintaining that opinion for long once they see you in action."
And yet another gamble. So much could be riding on that, however. Perhaps an entire overhaul of their society. If an omega decisively proves themselves in battle, the ban for them to join the military may finally be lifted. It's not like the special accommodations they require are much different from women's, and with the country running low on soldiers, they'll be willing to start cutting corners soon one way or another. Erwin will be there to fan the flames, of course.
For now, though, it's up to Levi.
"Is there anything you wish to take with you? I don't mind taking a little detour."
He doubts he has any precious belongings, living in such a place, but it doesn't hurt to ask. It's little steps like this that take up building trust with someone who's so much like a feral street cat that Erwin almost expects him to bristle and start hissing. But he's determined to work his way to petting it sooner or later.
