[because jin ling will eventually say something that makes jingyi shut his damn mouth! he considers the first message, chewing his cheek thoughtfully.]
i didn't mean to make you feel like shit not on purpose, anyway
[‘does it matter?’ he almost asks again, instead changing his mind at the very end to:]maybe i like you or something
[ Jin Ling can't help it if that first picture wasn't meant for him who was it for! And that's easier than paying attention to how that made his heart skip a beat. Ridiculous. ]
[he did, technically, whenever he'd mentioned sending the first picture to sizhui or zizhen. (here's the catch, though: what if he sent it to both of them?)]
[ ... Jin Ling backtracks through the conversation. ]
You... didn't actually say who.
[ He had said it could basically be anybody! ]
What'd you mean when you said maybe you like me? Like as a friend or...
[ Ugh Jin Ling hates himself for asking that he sounds pathetic. How to backtrack... ]
I don't get it. Why you'd send that picture out and then send me another one and say it's just for me and that maybe you like me but you were just sending pictures to other people to start and not me?
[ And he's just digging the embarrassment hole deeper. Dammit. He really does like Jingyi, when did this happen and how can he make it stop? ]
[he didn't specify, to be fair, so he'll give jin ling that one.]
sizhui or zizhen, yeah?[that's more than enough promiscuity for a lan, after all.
and you know, watching jin ling literally dig himself into a hole then proceed to practically make it into his grave would be funnier if they weren't having an actual, serious conversation right now? as it stands, jingyi feels bad for his friend questioning it, for making him feel like he'd meant to cross wires or be difficult when he was simply being his ridiculous self.]
listen, jin ling, this might make me sound terrible but i send nudes to people all the time. i'm very body confident and not afraid to show it off. though if you'd rather i stop and send them all to you instead, that could be arranged.
because while i do like you as a friend, i find myself liking you in a different way, too.
[ Jin Ling is quiet for a while, laying in his grave and all and he feels stupid and he's also annoyingly hopeful. This is so, so, so dumb, like Jingyi's really hot dumb face. ]
You like me enough in a different way to not send them to other people? Really?
[silence on the other end of the phone worries jingyi, makes him wonder if he's totally just overstepped boundaries by admitting to such a thing.
right when he is considering sending another message to backpedal, however, jin ling finally answers and he exhales a breath he didn't even know he was holding. way to keep him on his toes, that's for sure!]
[jingyi doesn't answer right away. instead, there's another, longer silence between texts, something near almost twenty minutes before he finally does respond.]
some things are worth the wait[then comes a picture following that.]
[ The long silence makes Jin Ling start to worry but he waits, obsessively checking his phone and pushing Fairy's head away from his lap and tells her to go to her bed. She whines but luckily obeys before that picture comes in.
And he stares, and well... ]
Jingyi...that's really
[ A good ten seconds before he finishes that thought. ]
[don't worry, jin ling, he's not ghosting you or leaving the message on read, just doing something far more inappropriate during that brief span of time. hopefully, the wait was worth it and considering the message he gets in return, jingyi can safely assume that yes, it was.]
yeah? glad you like it since now i've got a mess on my hands or hand and everywhere else, i guess
too bad you're wayyy over there or else i'd ask you to help me out
[ After this conversation he wants to look at Jingyi in person and okay maybe he wants to see all that in person too even if he feels anxious about it too. ]
[ Jin Ling is all too eager to do it, to get close to Jingyi after this situation even if he feels a bit over his head.
There's a little voice in his head telling him to admit he's never done anything like that before but he's prideful and he's insecure that anything could change the other's mind. ]
[‘yeah, well—’ but reconsidering it, does he really want to argue more?]you did, yeah
ok, sounds good, i'll see you in a bit
[a bit because he imagines it'll take jin ling far longer than him to get there. caiyi town is only about five-and-a-half miles away from cloud recesses, it doesn't take jingyi long to get there by sword, find the nearest inn to check into and wait patiently (as possible, anyway) for his friend to show up as well.]
[ It definitely takes Jin Ling longer to get there than it does Jingyi but he does reach it and then makes sure to know exactly where to find Jingyi and as he comes into the inn he's full of nervous and almost turns himself right back around.
But instead, he finds the room that Jingyi had gotten, a light knock to announce his arrival and a deep breath to try and calm down the nervousness that's kicked into gear. It's easy over text but in person, he is a whole lot less confident and determined not to show it. ]

we could meet up in caiyi town if you're willing to make the trip

because i'm already getting up to prepare for it

i'm thinking about how great your mouth would feel
