[ Lan Xichen had gotten the call from his unhappy client late at night. He'd been unwilling to talk much - perhaps because he'd been unwilling to admit to what he wanted to do that Huaisang had refused to do - but he'd been very clear that since he didn't get what he wanted, he wouldn't make the concessions for their contract.
Lan Xichen'd let him talk, got a promise to meet with him in a few days to go over things, and then hung up to text Huaisang.
Huaisang who the client had kicked out, and who should be sitting in Lan Xichen's very expensive car with his very expensive body guard and driver, who he sees he also has missed calls from. For now, he texts them and tells them to wait for further orders, and then sends Huaisang a text. ]
[ From the moment Huaisang had been kicked out by the businessman he had been trying to get ahold of Xichen. He’s scared and embarrassed. He shouldn’t have said no, he’s not allowed to say no! He curls his fingers on his phone when finally he receives a curt text instead of a call back. ]
He wanted to mark me with his name permanently. I didn’t want his name on me…
[ It takes Lan Xichen a little while to reply to that - he's so furious he has to read it a few times to make sure he's seeing it correctly.
How dare he. The client knew - all of their clients know, everyone Lan Xichen shares Huaisang with knows - that any kind of permanent mark is off limits, let alone a mark of ownership.
Lan Xichen may share Huaisang, but he belongs completely to Lan Xichen.
On a smaller scale, he's angry with Huaisang, too, and he focuses on that for now. ]
[ He's absolutely angry - but most of it is with the client. His anger towards Huaisang is far more along the lines of being disappointed that when the boy was panicked, his first thought wasn't to call Lan Xichen.
He'll have to try to fix that. ]
You know you have to be punished for this, don't you?
[ The temptation to try and argue, to barter is so strong but Huaisang holds back. He's already made enough mistakes and disappointed and angered Xichen enough. He doesn't want to make it worse. He's still very reluctant about Wangji and his punishments are known to be harsh. Much harsher than anything Xichen has ever done. ]
Okay. I will be good for you.
[ He will do his best anyway. He looks out the window of the car as it makes way to Wangji's place and Huaisang shifts restlessly in his seat trying not to think of what was in store for him when he arrives. ]

[ He has Wei Wuxian, after all, he is well versed in the art of punishment. ]
And I have little choice. I must take care of the client quickly, before things get worse.
[ Before the client gets it into his head that he had any right to demand such a thing of what belongs to Lan Xichen. ]
