"Do I?" Rhy asked, his voice soft, sad. Then he shook his head and looked away.

With a deep breath and a deeper sigh he turned to consider his brother.

"I wish your hand. I wish your help as we take a month to start the city to rights. I wish you to be willing to stand at my side. And then I wish to send my partner and mate out into the world, first with me at his side, and then on his own if he wishes, to see the world, to explore, to learn things that you might then bring back to Arnes so we may make this country better. I wish a partner."

Kell frowns and it aches that Rhy would even need to ask that. Of course, he would always return to him. They were brothers. He swallows as he listens to the other. Honestly, Kell doesn't know why it's so hard for him to just accept this. It couldn't be changed. And it's Rhy. Hasn't his entire life been about serving Rhy? Is being his omega really so different?

Finally, he nods. He doesn't know if he can be enough. He has no mind for politics, he's not anything like either of their parents, nothing like a royal should be. How could become an adequate partner? The uncertainty weighs on him, the fear of failure.

"I will do my best to serve you well, in any way you need or require... or want."

Kell knows the more public this becomes there will be whispers, because no one would dare criticize it out loud but they still would.

They weren't brothers, Kell. Not anymore. They were mates.

But the word makes Rhy hiss in distaste. Serve him. He wasn't ASKING for service. Surely his brother felt the headache he was already causing Rhy.

"I don' want your service, Kell. That is not what I'm offering. We're bonded, and we're both princes, so why should you not be an equal?"

Why did this have to be so hard to ask for?

Kell wants to point out that he was never an equal before. He bites his tongue harshly for a moment to swallow it. All the pain their parents had caused is so far from healing but it's not fair to lay that at Rhy's feet when it had never been his fault. None of this or the past is Rhy's fault.

"Rhy, my entire life has been one of service," very little had been for himself. "I have never been your equal. I don't know how. Is it not enough that I will be by your side?"

So no. He doesn't even wish to try to learn.

"I see," he says. "I can't do that, brother. I can't rule my mate. I refuse."

Kell exhales in frustration. He pushes away from the railing and slips back inside, pacing.

"You know this is who I am, Rhy."

He clasps his hands behind his back as he paces, agitated and maybe that's partially something he's picking up from Rhy.

"I will be by your side, aiding you. Why is that not enough of being a partner?"

There's almost a tinge of pleading in his words.

"Because service isn't love," Rhy answered. "Because service is obedience. It's bowing to me. It's everything about alphas and omegas I hate."

He can't do that to his brother. So either he needs a partner or he needs to release his brother and deal with his misery.

"You know that I love you, brother," Rhy protests, even though it's not something usually said between them but he had been willing to give his life for Rhy's. He had gone against what was supposed to be, he had put everything at risk for Rhy's life.

"You're expecting me to change who I have been instantly."

"I was expecting you might with to try," Rhy answered. "That you might aspire to trying, and being mine as I would be yours."

His own decisions, that stupid amulet, had put his brother in reach, and yet beyond it more than he had been before. It drove grief deep into his heart.

Kell exhales and he looks away from Rhy. "You do not make it sound like trying you make it sound as if it is the only way and that is not where we can begin, brother."

It's exhausting arguing with Rhy.

"I am yours. You.. are mine. Maybe not in all the ways you wish yet can you not afford me time?" he questions.

He moves further back into the other's room and then to his bed.

"Can you not let me give myself to you in the ways I can and with time I can..."

"I would afford you time, brother, but you also seem to suggest that time will never suffice."

And that was frustrating. As frustrating as it was to watch his brother walk away from him.

"What ways would you give me?"

Kell shakes his head but he supposes that he had...a part of him doubts that there will ever be enough time. But he would try for Rhy he would always try anything for Rhy. He sits on the bed, his hands curled at the edge of it as he watches his brother's form.

"My support and..." he exhales. "I am your omega and I have not let you truly claim me yet."

Rhy took a quick step off of the balcony and into the room to look upon his brother with wide, shocked eyes.

"You, but, I..."

IT wasn't often Rhy blushed, but in this moment, he was.

"Kell, surely you can't mean that."

"Do you think I'm lying or joking?" Kell asks, looking up at Rhy and then away as he starts by removing his coat, setting it aside and then working on his shirt. There's still some enjoyment at seeing the other blushing and he smiles slightly.

"Why can't I mean this? Do you not want to claim me?"

Maybe...they both needed it.

His eyes follow the progression of his brother's clothes being shed.

"I do," he admits, breathless. "From the moment after we were broth manifested. You are beautiful, brother, and I've wanted to wrap your long limbs around me. But I don't want it to feel like duty."

Kell bites the inside of his cheek, a shudder going through him at his brother's words. He continues to undress until there is nothing left. He scoots back on the bed and his stomach is full of nervous twisting butterflies or something else who knows. It's embarrassing to be naked like this and to do what he does next -- which is part his legs for Rhy, lifting up his hips.

"Brother, claim me."

It is not only a duty even if a part of it, perhaps is. He has always wanted Rhy too but he is never supposed to get him... He had held it back for years.

"Kell," he whispered, stepping toward the bed.

There he was, poetry in the form of long, pale limbs, crimson hair falling about his face, the blue eye looking at him, the black just as affixed and he knew it. Oh how beautiful he looked there, wanting him. Did he want him? Rhy hoped so.

The man licked his lips and moved closer, sitting on the edge of the bed.

"You want this, right?"

Kell worked to keep himself from averting his gaze even though he feels vulnerable, a bit awkward doing this. He'd never let himself have time to explore sexuality and desire. He'd never really even kissed someone until he'd kissed Lila. He swallows as the other moves closer, right to the edge of the bed and Kell doesn't know if he should stay still or move to him.

He nods, the other can probably feel his nerves but also he's not lying.

And there was Rhy, who had been so experienced with his sexuality and desire thanks to Alucard and all who came after. Here he was, driven to a tenderness he hadn't expected. He leaned down to offer only a tiny, gentle kiss to his brother. Their first one.

Kell looks up at him and he doesn't know what to expect of Rhy in this area. His sex life isn't a mystery but this is different in so many ways. Somehow, a gentle small kiss is not what he expects. He's still for a long moment, hopefully not too long, before he kisses him back slowly.

At last he moves closer and leans down to kiss his brother's stomach. And oh how good it is, to do this at last.

"I always wanted you as my own," he admits, hand gliding over Kell's thigh.

Kell is surprised by that information, swallowing heavily as Rhy's lips come away from his and then move lower. His stomach tenses slightly and his breathing picks up.

"Why...?" Kell shakes his head. Rhy could have had anyone he wanted, he shivers as the other's hand moves over the sensitive skin of his thigh, feeling the urge to part his legs more in response and he does.

Most people wanted Kell because of his powers, because of what he could do. Because Antari were powerful and useful.

"Because I love you."

Why wasn't one of those.

Kell swallows at the answer and his heartbeat picks up. He knows that Rhy means it, that it's more than just words between brothers.

"Rhy," his voice trembles just a little, needy. He's never quite felt this way, never allowed himself to and yet here he is opening himself up to his alpha, his mate.

He moves away from his mate and moves to take his clothing off as well, to leave himself bare for Kell to see. So nice.

"I'll always remember today."
