Wei Wuxian is lounging on a low tree branch. One leg dangling over the side while the other is bent at the knee with the foot on top it. His head is resting against the trunk in a picture of relaxation. It's peaceful and he can hear leaves falling all around him. His eyes shut as he contemplates taking a short nap before continuing on with his day. The foot that dangles swings back and forth, toe of his shoe dragging along the blades of grass. The weather is getting cooler but it is always just a touch colder in Gusu then anywhere else anyway. It's hardly something he notices anymore.
Perhaps he has forgotten the date, or merely doesn't find the importance of being another year older to have any real significance. After all the things he has experienced, a birthday seems like just another day. But at least this day seems to be a good one as far as weather is concerned. He could easily spend it all right here in this tree. He knows there is probably other things he should be doing but for now he is content.
If he hears the quiet rustle of robes through leaves, he doesn't make any sort of indication. Instead he just pretends that he is asleep as he lets the breeze blow the long pieces of his hair gently against his face.
Lan Wangji is well aware it is the day that Wei Wuxian turns another year older. It perhaps is a strange thing considering the events of their lives to make any note of it at all. Time proves not to be completely linear between them. However, he still makes his way to find Wuxian, one hand behind his back and the other holding his scabbard as usual.
"Wei Ying," he says calmly, not all that soft or harsh. He knows when the other is faking it but he doesn't say as much.
He cracks one eye open as he hears his name, knowing that the other man was there and would call him out. He can't help the smile that comes to his lips as he looks at the other man with that one eye. "Yes Lan Zhan? Is there something you need or are you here to enjoy the weather too?"
He could gladly spend all day right in that spot. But he knows that there are probably other things that need to be done.
Wangji watches the smile that overcomes the other's lips and it as always makes his heart do a little flutter. There's a hint of a smile on his own lips if the other can see clearly enough.
He doesn't say anything and instead brings out the items behind his back held with one hand, some peanuts and emperor's smile which he offers to the other silently.
"Oooh...Lan Zhan has brought presents." His grin broadens as he pushes himself up away from the tree trunk so he can sit up straight on the branch. "Do you have a destination in mind for partaking in these things?"
He hops off the branch and stretches his hands up to the air as he stands up straight. He works the stiffness out of his body that was caused by his position on the tree.
He opens his arms wide and does a circle around to indicate the place they currently stand. "How about a picnic? Nothing better then enjoying a nice day with good wine, good snacks and good company."
He stops spinning and puts his hands on his hips as he resumes looking at his soulmate.
"Mm," Wangji agrees quietly as he glances around the area. It's nice and peaceful and they're unlikely to be disturbed which is generally a good thing when Wuxian is drinking -- in his opinion.
He hardly thinks he is the one that causes a problem when drinking. But then again, he isn't the one that has to deal with himself. But he is sure that his drinking habits can't possibly be as troublesome as when Lan Zhan takes a sip.
He reaches out and grabs Lan Zhan's wrist to pull him towards a good spot to sit down so they can start their party. "How did you know where to find me?"
Wei Wuxian is bundled up head to toe. It is just a bit colder then he would like and the fact that he doesn't have the added benefit of a golden core to keep him warm makes it just a little bit harder to endure. So he is dressed in layers, a cloak with a nice warm fur hood keeping his head covered. He rubs gloved hands together as he stands besides a frozen lake.
He should have stayed inside where it was warm but he couldn't help himself. Despite the cold the view was beautiful. The snow covering the ground and the water frozen over makes a pleasant sight. It's hard not to enjoy the sparkle of the snow as the sun hits it. And at least there is that little bit of help against the cold. The sun exists to keep him from completely freezing into that spot.
Wangji had nothing out of the ordinary except a winter outer layer that doesn't change how he would look in summer all that much. He finds Wuxian outside. He isn't sure what had driven the other outside in such cold temperatures but sometimes Wei Ying's whims were unexplainable.
When he came upon him he watches him for a few moments first before joining beside him.
He looks over when the other man appears by his side. He envies his ability to dress so lightly in this kind of weather. But Lotus Pier had always been much warmer year round. Maybe someday his skin will get thicker the longer he stays in Gusu.
"Did you come out to admire the view too, Lan Zhan?"
If his skin does not grow thicker, Lan Wangji will always make sure that he is warm enough. He doesn't look at Wei Ying directly as a hand remains behind his back and the other at his side.
"Mm," he nods slightly. The view and to join the other.
He reaches out and hooks his arm through the other man's, drawing closer so that he can try to absorb what body heat he can. He knows that he should probably just go inside but he can't help himself. He prefers being outside and this kind of weather just makes him go a little stir crazy. being cooped up inside all day is unpleasant.
well...not completely unpleasant. At least he has Lan Wangji to keep him company and distract him when he starts to get bored.
He considers Wei Ying for a moment and then silently pulls away the fur-lined outer robe he had on. The cold doesn't bother him as much as it does most people. He drapes it around the other's shoulders but still lets him stay close despite them being outside.
He grins and tugs that new cloak around his shoulders a little tighter. Of course the other man would worry about his well being. "Don't worry Lan Zhan. I'm not going to get sick just from being out in the cold. I'm not that weak."
Even without a golden core he is still able to function well enough. He figures he can handle a little cold weather for a few minutes.
Wangji is silent and he doesn't argue. Still, it is also the other's comfort he worries about but if the other wants to be outside then he will not press him to go back inside just yet.
"I do. Just think of all the things we are missing by staying cooped up inside. We would miss all this nice scenery. We could be having a snowball fight. And best of all...once we get cold enough then we can enjoy getting warmed back up when we do go inside."
Whatever that might entail. There are plenty of ways to get warm.
Granted most of the time, WuXian went with WangJi just about everywhere he went. It was more fun that way, after all, and besides, they were married. It only made sense. But every once in a while, he wasn't able to for one reason or another. It was rare that it happened, but tonight had been one of those rare times that he hadn't accompanied WangJi on the night hunt.
He had accepted it easily when WangJi left, but afterwards he waited not so patiently for his husband to return. Even if it was only for a few hours, he always missed WangJi when he was gone. He never thought that it would be forever, inwardly at least, but that still didn't stop him from sitting by the window and waiting for him.
As he saw WangJi finally returning, he smiled, turning to look at the door. When his husband finally opened the door, he smiled. "Lan Zhan, welcome home."
Wangji deals with the parting a little better than Wuxian but he had also been busy with his task and finishing it swiftly. If he focuses then he can return home to his husband more quickly. He knew the other would be waiting for him, most likely impatiently and as soon as he had completed the task he returns without any delay.
"Wei Ying," he greets lowly as he comes in, closing the door behind him. There's a small smile that tugs the corner of his lips.
WuXian at the very least didn't look like he had been impatient when WangJi came in even if WangJi knew that he had been. But he was very glad that WangJi was back as soon as he possibly could be. It was always nice to have him home after that.
WuXian stood and walked over to him, reaching out to take his hand before leaning in to kiss him. "Can I get you anything? Do you want some tea?"
Lan Wangji
let me know if this is okay!

Take care of hubby first and foremost.

"Mm," he nodded, tea would be good. A moment to unwind.

"Let me get it for you." He gave WangJi's hand one more squeeze before he finally released it and headed to make tea for WangJi.
"The night hunt went well, I take it?" he called back over his shoulder.
